In honor of March being Women’s History Month, Bean Runner Cafe will celebrate the accomplishments, artistry, and chops of women, with the 2025 Lady Got Chops: Women’s History Month Music & Arts Festival. For the 16th year, the cafe will feature an impressive lineup of artistic women.
The Lady Got Chops: Women’s History Month Music & Arts Festival is a non-profit organization founded more than two decades ago by New York native, parent, composer, bandleader, educator, and bass phenom Kim Clarke. It was created to empower women artists, highlight women musicians and “globally elevate Women’s History Month through the promotion of women’s outstanding contributions, artistic and otherwise, during the month of March.”
The artists performing at Bean Runner Cafe throughout March are top-flight musicians who will knock your socks off. An Evening with KJ Denhert

KJ Denhert is an award-winning songwriter, guitarist, vocalist and bandleader living in Ossining, New York. She is a consummate artist with a rich history; a legend of Urban Folk & Jazz who channels a wide range of influences to create something completely unique. She performs regularly in New York and around the world and has shared stages with internationally renowned jazz and pop musicians such as Grammy winners Alicia Keys, the late Roberta Flack and many more. When not touring, KJ has a residency at The 55 Bar in New York City’s West Village performing with her all-star band. She has released 10 albums, with “Destiny” her latest release.

Tamuz Nissim Trio

Vocalist and drummer Tamuz Nissim, accompanied by guitarist George Nazos and bassist Dan Asher, will bring their dynamic trio to Bean Runner Café. The talented ensemble promises an evening of vibrant jazz, blending music from Nissim’s acclaimed discography with swinging selections from the Great American Songbook. Known for her captivating stage presence, virtuosic scatting and seamless integration of voice and rhythm, Nissim leads the trio with artistry and finesse, supported by Nazos’s rich guitar harmonies and Asher’s steady, soulful bass lines.

Jenny Roxas Sings

Local singer Jenny Roxas began her career at a young age as a solo performer in corporate events and acting in musicals. She was part of an 8-piece band formerly known as “Ordinary People” that performed in hotels, restaurants and bars in the metro-area. She also did radio commercials and digital ads for various companies.
Jenny Roxas’s repertoire includes songs from the ’90s, pop, ballads and classics. She enjoys singing covers by Adele, Lady Gaga, Nora Jones. Last December, Jenny performed at the 2024 Peekskill Holiday Tree Lighting, as reported in the Peekskill Herald.

Natalie Hamilton Band

Natalie Hamilton is a singer-songwriter and recording artist who has toured the eastern seaboard, playing extensively in New York City. She has been praised as “evocative” with a “stunning voice” by Ink 19 magazine and “marvelous, feminine and tough” by Rolling Stone & SPIN Magazine contributor Thom Jurek. On March 14, Natalie will bring her band, including bassist Dezron Douglas, to Peekskill.
In July 2022, Hamilton’s song “Show You My Love” was included in The Essential Western New England Songbook as “one of the best songs ever written by an artist from the New England area.”

Andrea Wolper Trio

Music as celebration of the human experience is at the heart of Andrea Wolper‘s approach to singing. Having started her professional career singing jazz standards, her eclectic tastes and multidisciplinary talents have led her to forge her own path down the byways of improvisatory vocal jazz. A “brilliant musical storyteller,” a “superior” songwriter and “terrific arranger,” Andrea combines swinging jazz standards and deeply felt ballads, original compositions, and imaginatively arranged songs from a variety of genres, adding up to “an inventive, thrilling, appealing musical vision.” A mainstay of the New York jazz scene, she has headlined in top clubs including the Blue Note, Dizzy’s Club, Birdland, Mezzrow, the 55 Bar, Zinc Bar, among others. Joining Andrea will be pianist Roberta Piket and bassist Ken Filiano. In honor of Women’s History Month, the set will give special attention to songs written by women, from Abbey Lincoln to Joni Mitchell, and more.
This will be Andrea’s first time in Peekskill. Let us welcome her warmly and show her Peekskill love.

Alexandra Noailles & Hiroshi Yamazaki Trio

Alexandra Noailles studied classical violin and has performed off-Broadway and in films. She considers herself a “life-long learner,” forever grateful for opportunities to learn from some of the most talented and respected jazz musicians in Westchester and New York City.
Hiroshi Yamazaki (piano) is a faculty member at Music Conservatory of Westchester. He has played at renowned venues like the Village Gate, Blue Note, and Birdland. Yamazaki’s debut album, Sketch of Bridge (1996), features Ron Carter and Lewis Nash. His second album, We May Say Love (2000), solidified his place in the jazz world.
Miles Gilbert (bass) has played on many legendary stages, including Newport Jazz Festival, Toronto Jazz Festival, White Plains Jazz Festival, The Deer Head Inn, and Jazz Forum.
Seasoned sideman Ron Vincent (drums) was a member of the Gerry Mulligan Quartet and Re-Birth of the Cool Tentet, and has performed with jazz greats like Phil Woods, Lee Konitz, and Art Farmer.

The Erena Terakubo Quartet

Erena Terakubo was born in Sapporo, Japan. She began playing the alto saxophone at the age of nine and had jazz clinics with musicians including Herbie Hancock when she was attending Sapporo Junior Jazz School. Her first album, “North Bird,” with Kenny Barron, Christian McBride, Lee Pearson, and Peter Bernstein, reached No.1 on the Japanese Jazz Charts and was awarded Swing Journal’s Gold Disc. In 2011 and 2013, Terakubo recorded her second and third CDs, “New York Attitude” and “Burkina,” with Kenny Barron, Ron Carter, Lee Pearson, Dominick Farinacci, Jimmy Cobb, and Lenny White. In 2015, she moved to New York and released her fourth disc, “A Time For Love,” with David Hazeltine, David Williams, Lewis Nash. The album was released worldwide.
Erena has performed in the Tokyo Jazz Festival and plays clubs such as Smalls, Zinc Bar, The Kitano, and The 55 bar.

Zola Kendi & Band

Zola Kendi, a jazz-soul singer-songwriter and longtime resident of Switzerland, has appeared in jazz festivals, clubs, TV shows and recording sessions worldwide. Zola performed professionally with artists such Phil Collins, Celine Dion and David Hasselhoff, at venues like Carnegie Hall, and for Sony Switzerland.
Zola is an ethnomusicologist and a music educator who leads her own jazz-soul group. She performs songs from her albums, Welcome and Only You. Accompanied by a stellar group of musicians, the lineup showcases original songs and jazz-soul rocking numbers.
