Peekskill High Drama Company to star in 16-song Musical Revue
For the first time ever, the Peekskill High School Drama Company will be hosting a musical revue this Friday, January 31, at 6 p.m. in the Peekskill High School Theater at 1031 Elm St. The evening will combine music, dance, and sketches and be full of musical hits from Broadway, featuring songs from West Side Story, Hamilton, Les Misérables, Wicked, Dear Evan Hanson, Little Shop of Horrors and many more.
Earlier this year, Peekskill High School (PHS) student, theater company member and performing arts enthusiast Max Ferrer came up with the idea of a revue — which is a collection of standalone performances — and proposed it to fellow students Lenita Esteves, Elah Ockler and Gabriella Smart. The students formulated a plan they then proposed to school officials, who gave it the thumbs up. “I wanted to do this because I find that there’s so much theatre that goes untouched in a high school, and for that reason so many students never even hear of it,” said PHS student Max Ferrer. “This project allows for exploration of that music.”
The January 31 musical revue is entirely organized, created, staged and performed by the students. Because the show is outside of the drama club advisors’ regular fall and spring schedule, the advisors volunteered their time to help the students in any way possible. Otherwise, “The entire show was put together by students,” said drama club advisor Laura Belfiore.
Admission to the Revue is $5 at the door. All proceeds go to the Peekskill High School Drama Company to help fund their spring performance of “The Wiz” on May 2 and 3.
PHS Drama Company will perform over 16 songs including …
- Waving Through a Window, Dear Evan Hansen
- Marry the Man Today, Guys and Dolls
- Take a Break, Hamilton
- Breathe, In the Heights
- Suddenly Seymour, Little Shop of Horrors
- Schuyler Sisters, Hamilton
- For Good, Wicked
- Being Alive, Company
- Tonight Quintet, West Side Story
- Gee, Officer Krupke, West Side Story
- Hopelessly Devoted to You, Grease
- The Confrontation, Les Misérables

Peekskill Middle School Drama Club to perform Matilda, Jr.
We are revolting children
Living in revolting times
We sing revolting songs
Using revolting rhymes
We’ll be revolting children
‘Til our revolting’s done
And we’ll have the Trunchbull bolting
We’re revolting!
– Revolting Children, from the musical Matilda
The children are rising up! Join the revolting children of the Peekskill Middle School Drama Company when they perform Matilda, Jr. on Friday, February 7 at 7 p.m., and again on Saturday, February 8 at 2 and 7 p.m, at the Peekskill Middle School Auditorium.
Matilda Jr. is the story of an extraordinary little girl with extraordinary powers. The daughter of abusive parents, Matilda finds refuge in library books, which she reads quickly, and in creating her own stories. Things are no better at school, where Matilda also must face a tyrannical and cruel headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, who believes in Crunchem Hall’s motto: “Bambinatum est Magitum,” or “Children are Maggots.” She finds companionship in her teacher, Miss Honey, who, though well-intentioned, is shy and fragile. Brave little Matilda knows she has to stand up against the adults in her world, and in doing so, discovers her own remarkable powers. Matilda’s bravery teaches Miss Honey and Matilda’s classmates an important lesson — even though life can be hard, “nobody but me is gonna change my story” so “sometimes you have to be a little bit naughty.”
Matilda Jr. is a joyous girl power romp packed with high-energy dance numbers and catchy songs. Children and adults alike will be thrilled and delighted by the story of the special little girl with an extraordinary imagination.
The cost for this full ensemble performance is $5 for students and seniors (65+) and $10 for adults. Purchase tickets in advance and pick your own seats by using this link. Tickets will also be available at the door. Peekskill Middle School is at 212 Ringgold Street, Peekskill.
