A traffic stop on Nelson Avenue at 2:30 in the morning Monday yielded a stash of drugs and $5,000 cash after a police chase of a suspect on foot.
Peekskill Police Officer Justin Quiles made a traffic stop on the 100 block of Nelson Ave. on Jan. 6 when police say a male occupant stepped out of the stopped vehicle and began to run away. This reportedly led Quiles to chase the man for a short distance before apprehending him on the 800 block of Main St.
The man was identified as Peekskill resident Corey M. Blair and according to police was found to be in possession of approximately 95 grams of crack cocaine, approximately 53 grams of heroin/fentanyl, approximately 500 glassine envelopes containing heroin/fentanyl and over $5,000 in dollars.
Later on that day, Blair was arraigned in Peekskill Court and charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, two counts of criminal use of drug paraphernalia (marijuana) in the second degree and one count of obstructing governmental administration.
According to the New York State Unified Court System, the 32-year-old man was also charged with a seat belt violation. The Peekskill Police did not respond for a comment if this was what led to the original traffic stop or not.
Blair pled not guilty and is being held at Westchester County jail pending future court appearances. His next court appearance is Jan. 23 at the Peekskill City Court.
All charges are considered accusations and defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
In November, Peekskill police along with county, state and federal officials seized crack, cocaine, heroin, fentanyl and methamphetamine in an early morning drug raid.
Peekskill Police say the arrest is part of an ongoing narcotics investigation and ask anyone with information to contact the Peekskill Police Detective Division at (914) 737-8000 or email [email protected] Anonymous tips can also be made at the city’s website under the crime tips section.
