Girls Swimming
After being off for a week, the Peekskill Varsity Girls Swim team are back in action. On Wednesday, Oct. 9, the Peekskill girls beat Port Chester High School, 54-39, at Carver Center Pool in Port Chester.
The girls currently hold a record of 7 wins and 1 loss, with their only defeat coming in a non-conference meet. Their next game is against Mount Vernon at 4:30 pm on Wednesday, Oct. 16, at Mount Vernon High School. The girls will also play Brewster on Thursday, Oct. 17, at Peekskill Middle School at 5 p.m.
Volleyball
On Thursday, October 10, the Peekskill Varsity Girls Volleyball team faced Ardsley and lost, a scene that has become all too familiar for this team this season. The final score of the match was Ardsley 3-0 Peekskill. The scores of each set were: 25-15, 25-12, 25-6.
The girls currently hold a record of four wins and eight losses. The girls will hope to improve upon their recent back to back losses in their next match against Henrick Hudson on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at Hendrick Hudson High School at 6 p.m. The Peekskill girls will also play Edgemont on Friday, Oct. 18 at Peekskill High School at 5 p.m.
Peekskill senior Jealina Searight was selected by the district for Athlete of the Month.
Boys Soccer
With the end of the regular season approaching, the Peekskill Varsity Boys Soccer team are looking as dominant as ever.
On Wednesday, Oct. 9, the Peekskill boys vanquished Edgemont High School at Torpy Field for the second time this season. The final score of the match was Peekskill 7-0 Edgemont.
Scorers for Peekskill included: Umaru Conteh (2), Daniel Farez Sierra, Charlie Berardi, Melvin Criollo, Brandon Rodriguez, Andres Cabrera, each with one goal.
Two days later, the Red Devils faced Haldane High School at home. Prior to the match, seniors on the Peekskill Varsity Boys Soccer team were swarmed with love from family members and friends during their Senior Night ceremony.
Motivated to win for their seniors, the Peekskill boys secured a statement 6-0 victory over Haldane. Scorers for Peekskill included: Umaru Conteh (2), Juan Ventura, Melvin Criollo, Khamani Thomas, Cris Chunchi, all with one goal.
The Red Devils have consistently shown their offensive strength this season, scoring a total of 56 goals. Senior Umaru Conteh has scored 23 of Peekskills goals this season. Conteh was selected by the district for Athlete of the Month.
The boys currently hold a record of 12 wins, two losses and one draw. Their last game of the regular season will be against Sleepy Hollow on Thursday, Oct. 17 at Sleepy Hollow High School at 4:30 p.m.
Girls Soccer
After three games without a win, the Peekskill Varsity Girls Soccer team secured two victories last week against Spring Valley High School and Ramapo.
On Thursday, Oct. 10, the Red Devils beat Spring Valley High School, 6-1, at Torpy Field. Scorers for Peekskill included: Kimberly Alfaro (3), Jozelyn Zhinin, Jackelin Alfaro, Ashlee Ordonez, all with one goal. Alfaro’s hat trick (3 goals) against Spring Valley is her second of the season. Alfaro has 13 goals this season for the Peekskill girls.
On Friday, Oct. 11, the Peekskill girls convincingly beat Ramapo, 6-0. Prior to the match, seniors on the Peekskill Varsity Girls Soccer team were honored during their Senior Night ceremony.
Scorers in the game against Ramapo included: Natalie Foster, Valeria Otavalo, Dayana Sari, Janeyra Maldonado, Jackelin Alfaro, Alejandra Morocho. The Peekskill girls kept their fifth clean sheet of the season in their victory against Ramapo.
The girls currently have a record of seven wins, five losses, and two draws. Their next game is against Saunders on Tuesday, Oct. 15, at Saunders High School at 4:30 p.m.
Football
On Saturday, Oct. 12, the Peekskill Varsity Football team faced Haldane at Haldane High School. The Haldane Blue Devils proved the superior team at the games finish, beating Peekskill 23-0.
The boys hold a record of three wins and two losses. Their next game is against Walter Panas on Saturday, Oct. 19, at Torpy Field at 6 p.m.
