Girls Soccer
The Peekskill Varsity Girls Soccer team failed to secure a win in their two matches last week. On Wednesday, Oct. 2, the Red Devils lost, 8-0, to Hendrick Hudson, with Peekskill conceding six goals in the first half. Hendrick Hudson’s Liv Johnsen dominated the game, scoring four of Hendrick Hudson’s goals.
The girls managed to draw, 1-1, against Putnam Valley on Friday, Oct. 4. Peekskill’s Kimberly Alfaro got the girls on the scoresheet in the twenty-first minute of the game. Alfaro has scored 10 goals for the Red Devils this season. Putnam Valley found an equalizer in the second half through a goal from Gianna Johnson.
The Red Devils now hold a record of five wins, five losses, and two draws. The team plays Spring Valley High School on Thursday, Oct. 10, at Torpy Field at 4:45 p.m and Ramapo on Friday, Oct. 11, at Torpy Field at 4:30 p.m.
Boys Soccer
The Peekskill Varsity Boys Soccer team were extra motivated in their faceoff against Ardsley High School on Wednesday, Oct. 2, after losing to Ardsley earlier in the season. Fans of the boys soccer team were put through an emotional eighty minute rollercoaster, but the Red Devils did not deliver a win.
The match was tied, 1-1, at halftime. Ardsley opened the scoring 14 minutes into the first half with a goal from Tiernan Kenny. Peekskill’s Umaru Conteh found an equalizer for the Red Devils in the last minute of the first half.
The match finished Peekskill 2-2 Ardsley. Conteh scored Peekskill’s second goal in the fifty-eighth minute of the match. The Red Devils were strong defensively for the rest of the game and looked certain to get a win until the last 10 minutes of the match. After piling on the pressure, Ardsley found an equalizer in the seventy-third minute, through a long range effort from Phillip Kaufman.
On Monday, Oct. 7, the Red Devils beat Hendrick Hudson, 4-2, away from home. Scorers for Peekskill include: Brandon Rodriguez, Umaru Conteh, Chris Chalco, and Ariel Tenezaca. Conteh has 19 goals this season for the Red Devils.
The Red Devils now hold a record of ten wins, two losses, and one draw. Their next game is against Edgemont High School on Wednesday, Oct. 9, at Torpy Field at 5 p.m. The boys will also play Haldane on Friday, Oct. 11 at Torpy Field at 6:30 p.m.
Volleyball
On Tuesday, Oct. 1, the Peekskill Varsity Girls Volleyball team were beaten by Sleepy Hollow, 3-1, at home. The final scores of each set were: 14-25, 25-1, 8-25, 11-25.
The game featured seven kills, eight digs, and three aces from PHS junior Audrina Mendez, three kills and one ace from senior Madyson Allen, and six kills, 11 digs, and three aces from senior Jealina Searight.
On Friday, Oct. 4, the Red Devils faced Poughkeepsie High School (in Poughkeepsie). The girls came away with a much needed victory, beating the Poughkeepsie Pioneers, 3-1. The final scores of each set were: 25-14, 25-20, 26-28, 25-19.
The game featured 10 kills, 10 digs, and five aces from Peekskill’s Audrina Mendez, two aces and 20 digs from freshman Camila Torres, six kills, 22 digs, and two aces from Jealina Searight, and four kills and three blocks from senior Adrienne Copeland.
The Peekskill girls participated in the 2024 Elmsford Classic at Alexander Hamilton High School on Saturday, Oct. 5. According to Coach Dennis Adams, the girls entered the tournament shorthanded with three players out sick.
During tournament play, the Red Devils won four out of five games to secure a place in the championship final against Yonkers CSEE. Peekskill ultimately finished as runners up, coming up short against a strong Yonkers team in the finals. Peekskill’s Brynne Barros was selected as an All-Tournament MVP.

The girls currently hold a record of four wins and seven losses. Their next game is against Ardsley on Thursday, Oct. 10, at Peekskill High School at 5 p.m.
Football
The Peekskill Varsity Football team have turned things around since their loss in their season opener against Tappan Zee.
Peekskill did not let Albertus Magnus High School gain a point, with a 20-0 win on Saturday, Oct. 5 at Bardonia.
The boys currently hold a record of three wins and one loss. Their next game is against Haldane on Saturday, Oct. 12, at Haldane High School at 1:30 p.m.
