Girls Volleyball
The PHS Varsity Girls’ Volleyball team bounced back after losing to Eastchester last week, beating Riverside High School, 3-0, at their home on Monday, Sept. 16. The final scores of each set were: 25-17, 25-14, 25-23.
According to Lohud, the match featured four aces, five kills, and 10 digs from PHS junior Audrina Mendez, seven aces and 17 digs from freshman Camila Torres, six kills and 10 digs from senior Jealina Searight, and four aces and two kills from junior Jayla Smith. Smith was selected as Player of the Match by the Red Devils.
The girls currently hold a record of two wins and one loss. Their next game is against Tappan Zee on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 4:30 p.m. at Peekskill High School. The girls will also play Roosevelt High School on Friday.
Boys Soccer
It took Gorton High School less than five minutes to get on the score sheet against the PHS Varsity Boys’ Soccer Team in their clash on Monday Sept. 16. The Red Devils quickly responded a minute later with a goal from senior Umaru Conteh. The boys would go on to dominate the rest of the game, with the final score reading 8-2 at the game’s finish.
Scorers for Peekskill include: Umaru Conteh (2), Brandon Rodriguez (2), and Daniel Farez Sierra, Juan Ventura, Charlie Berardi, Matt Duran, all with one goal.
Shervens Dueleurant and Jamil Rahman scored a goal a piece for Gorton High School. The PHS Varsity Boys Soccer Team now holds a record of five wins and one loss.
Leading the line for the Red Devils this season is senior Umaru Conteh, who has had an impressive start to the season. His two goals against Gorton has brought his season tally to 8 goals for the season. Conteh was nominated for Lohud’s Player of the Week for week 1.
The boys’ next game will be on Thursday Sept. 19 against Hendrick Hudson High School at 4:30 p.m. at Torpy Field. They also face Brewster on Saturday at home under the lights at 7 p.m.
Girls Soccer
After falling short to a tough Nanuet team last week, the PHS Varsity Girls’ Soccer Team is back to their winning ways after a thumping, 7-0 win against Roosevelt High School on Monday Sept.16.
Scorers in the 7-0 win against Roosevelt include: Alejandra Morocho (2) and Janeyra Maldonado, Valeria Otavalo, Brianna Tuba, Jackeline Alfaro, Kathleen Myancela Loja, all with one goal.

Football
On Saturday Sept. 14, the Peekskill community was treated to a rematch of last year’s Hudson Valley Football Tournament Final, when the PHS Varsity Football Team versed Tappan Zee in their season opener.
Last year’s game ended with Peekskill beating Tappan Zee and lifting gold. This time around, Tappan Zee came with a point to prove and overcame the Red Devils convincingly, 26-0.
According to Lohud, the game featured three rushing touchdowns from Tappan Zee’s Aedan Toapha, a touchdown catch from Jack Piccione, and an interception from Mike Martinez.
The Red Devils’ next game will be on Friday Sept. 20, against Poughkeepsie at Poughkeepsie High School at 6 p.m.
