This week, the Peekskill Herald debuts Peekskill Herald Exurbanist, a major expansion of our Arts & Entertainment coverage. We’re thrilled that the city’s premier service organization, Rotary Club of Peekskill, is the inaugural sponsor.
“Service Above Self” is the Rotary motto, which translates into building a stronger, more inclusive and caring community together. From supporting initiatives in the schools to organizing fundraisers when disaster strikes in the community, Rotarians have been at the forefront of Peekskill’s community network since its inception 106 years ago.
As part of our new Arts & Entertainment coverage, readers on our mailing list will receive a Peekskill Weekender Newsletter on Thursday mornings, compiling the Herald’s weekly coverage of events happening in our area, as well as a complete listing of weekend events pulled from our event calendar. To stay in the loop with all the things happening in our area, sign up here to get on the e-mail list.

On Friday mornings, readers who follow @peekskill_exurbanist on Instagram will get a curated rundown of our team’s top local weekend happenings, called Peekskill Weekender, which will feature the team’s TOP PICKS of things to do each weekend (it is a curated selection that is not intended to be a complete list of every event).
On Fridays, a link to Peekskill Weekender on Instagram also will be available on the Herald home page.
In anticipation of their annual Fall Festival on October 4–their largest fundraising event of the year–the Rotary Club is contributing to this expanded effort of the Herald to better serve the community with lifestyle and entertainment coverage.
New this year to the Rotary Fall Festival is a Community Cafe tent where visitors can relax while eating all the yummy treats purchased from food trucks and various culinary vendors. Along the perimeter of the tent will be local non-profit organizations showcasing how they build and create community here.
“One of Rotary Club of Peekskill’s proudest accomplishments is our ongoing support of local non-profits, especially those uplifting our youth,” said Adrienne LaValley, chairperson of the Fall Festival. “This year, we’re excited to showcase the incredible work these organizations are doing, giving our community a chance to see who’s making a difference around town. Our hope is that neighbors find causes close to their hearts or discover resources that can support them. As Mister (Fred) Rogers said, ‘Look for the helpers.’”
