Art will take over the John C. Hart Memorial Library in Shrub Oak throughout May with an exhibition by artist Joann Zwolski. Organized in collaboration with the Peekskill Arts Alliance, this show delves into three fundamental elements of visual art: color, line, and texture, which also lend their names to the exhibition.
Zwolski’s gallery will be open to the public from May 2 through May 29. The artist’s work has been praised for its technical mastery, particularly in her use of acrylic and watercolor. In this show, Zwolski blends abstract and thematic elements inspired by nature, offering a reflection on the interaction of colors, lines, and textures in her art.

Previously, Zwolski’s paintings have received support from the Peekskill Arts Alliance, allowing attendees the opportunity to meet the artist and explore her story. Her works have been exhibited in galleries throughout New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Delaware. In March, her art was warmly received at Arbor Gallery in Carmel.
On the same day, May 2 at 6:00 p.m., the Desmond-Fish Public Library in Garrison will open the exhibition “Portraits of the Fish of Putnam County.” The exhibition, which will remain open throughout May, features detailed representations of local fish species such as pumpkinseed and largemouth bass, created by artists Flick Ford and George Carroll Whipple III, along with contributions from a local historian.
During the opening, there will be a conversation between Ford and Whipple III, founder of the nonprofit Preserve Putnam, dedicated to preserving the history and nature of the county. The exhibition will be available in the program room on the lower level of the library.
