Boys’ Basketball

Tyrone Searight’s boys basketball team is looking strong heading into postseason action, after extending their winning streak to five games. The boys are yet to lose a game at home this season.
On Tuesday, Feb. 11, Peekskill tore apart Sleepy Hollow, 73-33, behind 33 points from Isaiah Crawford and 13 from Darius Smythe. This is the second time the Peekskill boys have beaten the Sleepy Hollow Horsemen this season.
The Red Devils continued to impress on Monday, Feb. 17, after strolling past Edgemont, 75-58, in their final game of the regular season. In this game, Isaiah Crawford dropped 33 points and Jaden Chavis scored 26 points.
The Peekskill boys currently hold a record of 14 wins and six losses and are ranked No. 4 in Class AA. Peekskill is expected to play the first round of sectionals this weekend. Their opponents will be announced on Tuesday, Feb. 18.
Girls’ Basketball

The Peekskill Varsity Girls Basketball team endured two losses this past week.
On Thursday, Feb. 13, the Red Devils fell to Port Chester at home, 60-43. Peekskill’s Jayla Smith led the Red Devils in points with 16. Jealina Searight also contributed with 12 points. At this game, five Peekskill seniors were honored for their senior night: Jealina Searight, Sianna Salazar, Jazlynn Parra, Joceline Diaz, Norah Thompson-Shapiro.
On Presidents Day (Feb. 17), Peekskill was defeated by Poughkeepsie at home, 50-36, in their last final game of the regular season. Peekskill’s Nai’lah Smalls scored 14 points for the Red Devils and Jayla Smith got 12.
The Peekskill girls finished the regular season with a record of six wins and 14 losses. The Red Devils have narrowly picked up the necessary points to qualify for the postseason, placing 18th in Class AA. Tournament brackets for Section 1 girls basketball are expected to be released on Tuesday, Feb. 18.
Winter Track


Peekskill’s Arisa Specce and Jermaine Carter competed in the Section 1 Class Championships at the Armory Track on Sunday, Feb. 16.
Specce placed fourth in the Class B 1,500 meter race walk, with a time of 8:48.38. Carter finished in fifth place in the Class B 600 meter run, with a time of 1:28.16.
Both Specce and Carter will compete in the Section 1 State Qualifier on Sunday, Feb. 23, at the Armory Track in New York City.
Boys’ Swimming

The 2024-25 winter season has come to an end for Alana Donabie’s varsity boys merged swim team.
On Feb. 10, seniors Thomas Loctizer (Haldane), Zachary Ninan, Marcus Pruitt, and Brandon Rodriguez, competed at the Section 1 Boys Swim Championships at Felix Festa Middle School. The boys competed in the 200 medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay. According to Swimcloud, the boys finished 24th out of 26 teams in the 200 freestyle relay, with a time of 1:52.64.
“The boys swam well and it was a great way to send our seniors off,” said assistant coach Nikki Brady. Peekskill’s merged team finished their regular season with a conference record of five wins and three losses.
