Whether you are a parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle or older cousin, there is nothing like seeing twinkle in a child’s eye or the joy in a child’s face when they meet Santa, create an ornament they can giveaway or put on the tree, or create a gift that a real life black bear can open and play with just feet away at the zoo. These are the small moments that create lifetime memories. These are the moments that are shared and looked back upon with joy as we grow older. In this weeks Peekskill Herald Roundup, we focus solely on kid friendly events.

Trailside Museum and Zoo – Beary Merry Holiday
On December 21st at 10:30 a.m., visit the Trailside Museum and Zoo for a Beary Merry Holiday at Bear Mountain. Join the Trailside Museum staff and help make some tasty festive treats and snacks for the Pal and Sadie, the resident black bears at the zoo. Then at 11:00 a.m. Pal and Sadie will come out of their dens to unwrap their “presents” full of delicious treats that you prepared specially for them.
After watching Pal and Sadie open their gifts, visit the rest of the other animals at the zoo. Top the day off with a visit to the Bear Mountain Inn to check out the Gingerbread Houses and gift shop. Then head over to the ice skating rink and lace up those skates for a fun time ice skating. Finish the day off with a spin on the merry-go-round or take a seat by the large fireplace. If ice skating and the merry-go-round are not your thing, you can always play on the huge playground or take a hike on one of the many hiking trails at Bear Mountain. Rain/snow date for the Beary Merry Holiday is Sunday December 22. Don’t forget parking is $10 per car at Bear Mountain and the zoo has a suggested entrance fee of $1 per person. However, you can always give more. There is a cash donation box at the entrance of the zoo. The walk from the parking lot to the bear den is approximately 20 minutes. This event is suggested for children of all ages.
