The end of the year is nearing, and so is the last First Tuesday Salon of 2024. The December 2024 First Tuesday Salon will be held on Tuesday, December 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the BeanRunner Café. This month’s Salon is entitled “It’s All Related.”
This Salon will delve into relationships in a fractured world. The three writers, James K. Zimmerman, Mary Newell, and Jared Harél distinguished local poets who will share their wisdom, their visions, their passions, and the powerful force of creative imagination to address this harrowing time. They will interweave their poems with reflections on process and the power of poetry in challenging times.
James K. Zimmerman’s writing appears in the Chicago Quarterly Review and many other journals and anthologies throughout the United States. His work has also appeared on websites such as The Poetry Foundation and American Life in Poetry. He is author of three volumes of poetry, most recently “The Further Adventures of Zen Patriarch Dōgen”, plus the forthcoming “Unbroken Circle, Unending Thread,” to be published in 2025. Mary Newell teaches creative writing and literature at the University of Connecticut, Stamford and intermittent online classes. She authored the poetry chapbooks TILT/ HOVER/ VEER and Re-SURGE, and has had her poems published in numerous journals and anthologies, and essays. Jared Harél is the author, most recently, of Let Our Bodies Change the Subject (U. of Nebraska Press, 2023) which won the Prairie Schooner Book Prize in Poetry and was named a Finalist for both the Paterson Poetry Prize and the National Jewish Book Award.
