Children’s Literature Award Celebration Honoring Claribel A. Ortega
On Saturday, November 9, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. the Desmond-Fish Public Library honors author Claribel A. Ortega with the Alice Curtis Desmond Award for Excellence in Children’s Literature. The award is given in honor of the library’s co-founder, Alice Curtis Desmond who made her writing career as an author of books for young people. Claribel A. Ortega is a former reporter who writes middle-grade and young adult fantasy inspired by her Dominican heritage. She is a New York Times bestselling author of Ghost Squad, which is soon to become a feature film, and author of the Witchlings series and Frizzy. All of her books are available in English and Spanish versions and can be found locally at The Field Library, or any library throughout Westchester via the Westchester Library System interlibrary loan program.
Throughout her career, Claribel A. Ortega has penned books for middle-aged kids and young adults highlighting friendship, family, and the idea of being true to yourself. Ms Ortega will be at the Desmond-Fish Library talking about her many works, including her new book House of Elephants, the third in her Witchlings series. In addition, refreshments will be served and books will be available for purchase and signing courtesy of Split Rock Books.
When Claribel is not busy turning her obsession with eighties pop culture, magic, and video games into books, she’s co-hosting her podcast Bad Author Book Club. Claribel is a Marvel contributor and has been featured on Buzzfeed, Bustle, Good Morning America and Deadline.
