Woof Woof! It will be a pooch smiling, tail-waggin, barking good time at the 2nd annual Barktoberfest. This Saturday, September 28, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the upper parking lot of Tompkins Park, just above the Peekskill Dog Park, the Friends of the Peekskill Dog Park will host a celebration of dogs, food, and community. This dog-friendly event will feature pet adoptions, dog friendly vendors, entertainment, food trucks, kids activities and the highly anticipated Doggie Howloween Parade and Costume Contest.
Four-legged attendees of all shapes and sizes can enjoy free Puppuccinos, while their human companions are invited to connect with the dog-loving community. You do not have to be a regular user of the dog park to attend this event, quite the contrary, everyone is invited even if you don’t have a dog. Looking to adopt? No problem, Paw Safe: https://pawsafe.org will be there holding pet adoptions bringing along puppies to senior pups looking for their fur-ever home.
The four hour event will include an array of dog-tatsic vendors offering things from specialty treats to in-home services for the canine in your family. Vendors include Fox & Hound Pet Services, A Good Dog Rescue, Valley Greens, Animal Specialty Center, Shaina’s Precious Paws. Two-legged friends can enjoy a chili cheese dog or any kind of hot dog you prefer from Jeremiah Dogs 29:11 or satisfy your sweet tooth with a ice cream sandwich or a cone of Jane’s ice cream from the Homestyle Desserts Ice Cream Truck. Of course, Good Reasons Dog Treats, a non-profit who creates scrumptious, all natural dog treats, while providing employment opportunities to people with autism and other developmental disabilities will be there. So double up on the dog treats and double up your impact by helping out two local nonprofits.
Dress up your best four-legged friend in their finest Poochstacular Costume and enter the Doggiest Costume Contest to win prizes. Jump in line and join the crowd in the most highly anticipated and cutest parade of the year: the Friends of the Peekskill Dog Park Doggie Howl-oween Parade. But don’t stop there, make it even more fun and dress in costume yourself or even better, wear matching outfits. Should you bring along the kids? Absolutely! Kid friendly events at this years Barktoberfest include Face Painting, Halloween Slime Making, and dog and other shapped balloon making.
The 2nd annual Barktoberfest is sure to be a fun-filled, “paws-itively” amazing event that both you and your dog won’t want to miss.
