From Sunday, September 15th through Tuesday, October 15th, cities, towns and municipalities all across the country celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Hispanic Heritage Month recognizes the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to the history, culture, and achievements of the United States. In doing so, they celebrate and honor the vibrant histories, cultures, languages, traditions, values, and contributions of people whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.
Here in Peekskill, this small city has a rich history of positive contributions from the Hispanic community, from the arts to music, sports to actors, from business owners to elected officials, and everything in between, the Hispanic community has deep roots in the city and their contributions have made lasting impacts which have only made this city a better place to live.
On Sunday, September 15th, from Noon to 7:00 p.m., the Peekskill Hispanic Community Corporation invites everyone to celebrate the achievements and contributions of the Hispanic Community in Peekskill at the 6th annual Hispanic Heritage Festival at the Riverfront Green.
At the Hispanic Heritage Festival, there will be a variety of music from Mexico, Ecuador, Colombia, and the Dominican Republic, showcasing the rich cultural traditions and vibrant sounds from each country. There will be craft artisans and vendors selling everything from art works to sarapes, trinkets to flags, and soaps and apothecaries. There will also be a variety of food options, including Latin American cuisine and an ice cream truck.
There is a full schedule of music and performers that will entertain the crowd, DJ Esco will keep the energy level up in between performances, and the attendees are encouraged to bring flags of their country and sing and dance all day long.
