What brought you to Peekskill?
I am from Purchase, N.Y. We owned real estate in Peekskill and that’s how I came to know the city.
Tell us how you came to own Paleteria Michoacana — does cooking, or ice cream making, run in your family?
I have been cooking most of my life!
What’s the origin of the name, Paleteria Michoacana? What does it mean?
The name comes from a state in Mexico, Michoacán, which is my home town.
What’s the best thing about your job, what’s your biggest challenge?
My biggest challenge is to please my customers, seeing them leave with a smile is the best part of my job.
How did the pandemic affect your business?
I opened in 2021, and since the first the business has been successful.
What makes your ice cream different? What sets it apart?
It is artisanal, made from scratch, and I use the best quality products for it.
What’s your favorite flavor of ice cream to make? What’s your favorite to eat?
They are all my favorite — I always taste them when I make them and they are all delicious!
How do you think the city’s development plans (e.g. the recent state funding) will affect your business?
I think it will bring more business to Peekskill, and of course, Paleteria Michoacana.
