The second annual Swim 4 Life: Making Waves for Youth Mental Health Awareness is coming to Veterans Memorial Pool in Depew Park this Thursday, August 8, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.
Swim 4 Life is an evening of swimming, dancing, music, and community engagement. DJ HuHeff will be there keeping the energy upbeat and fun, and best of all, the event is FREE for all of the Youth of Peekskill. Unlike other events, entry to this one does not require a recreation pool card, thus allowing everyone to enjoy a day at our city pool for free without any financial barriers. Ultimately that is what this is all about.
“Through the City of Peekskill Youth Bureau, I started the Swim 4 Life event, an initiative with the Westchester Department Community Mental Health (DCMH) dedicated to combating youth mental health issues and raising awareness in our community. This event was designed to bring attention to the importance of mental health among our youth and to provide a supportive and engaging environment for participants.” says Peekskill Senior Youth Advocate Darryl Francis.
“I believe that addressing youth mental health is crucial for building a healthier and more resilient community, and Swim 4 Life is one way of making a positive difference and showing our commitment to supporting young people and the entire family as a whole” Francis continued.
The 2nd annual Swim 4 Life is sponsored by the Peekskill Youth Bureau, City of Peekskill, Peekskill Parks and Recreation, Westchester County Government, the Peekskill PTO and Main Event Barber Shop. Each of the sponsors will have a table at the event where kids, teens and parents can pick up information and talk to people who care about youth and mental health.
Throughout the year, the Youth Bureau will offer a variety of activities, educational workshops, and opportunities for community partners to come together to bring mental health awareness. Participants can learn about the impact of mental health on young people and find ways to contribute to their well-being.
As Darryl Francis says, “Together, we can make a splash in the fight against youth mental health challenges.”
