The 16th Annual Engineering is Fun STEM event to excite students about science, technology, engineering and math is taking place at the Peekskill Youth Bureau Friday, March 15 from 6:15-8:30 pm.
This is the 16th year the Peekskill GirlScouts Community is running this engineering STEM event.
Rosie Goldman, co-Service Unity Manager of the Peekskill Girl Scouts says, “it is the brainchild of our own Jennifer Turner [of Peekskill] who sought to create a fun event to introduce kids to the joys of engineering.” The event is open to everyone, all girls and boys aged K-12 are allowed to attend and they do not need to be scouts to attend or participate.
This fun STEM event will have kids moving throughout the room in 15 minute intervals at experiment stations where each station showcases the many different sides of engineering. “From robotics to a bridge building challenge to a hoverboard experiment, kids will be having a blast as they encounter the joys of STEM and experiments,” said Turner.
This year IBM will be there bringing an Exciting Hovercraft Experiment hosted by Ed Jones, a retired IBM Engineer. The Peekskill Girl Scouts will be hosting a Building Bridge Challenge. The Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson Robotics Techno Teams will be there as well as the Peekskill HS Robotics Team. The Westchester Forensics Lab, Home Depot, and the Recycling Wind Chime Innovation Project will be there as well. Abrakadoodle will be there and will offer over a 100 pressed buttons that each participant will be able to design themselves.
The cost for this event is $15 and includes a station-passport. Parents can purchase a fun patch if they would like, but this is optional. Snacks will also be available for an additional purchase. Don’t wait to buy tickets, last year’s event sold out! Tickets can be purchased via this link on CheddarUp.
The 16th annual Engineering is Fun event is sponsored by the Peekskill Girl Scouts, IBM, the Peekskill Youth Bureau, the Peekskill High School Robotics Team, the Westchester Forensics Lab, and Home Depot.
The event organizers also ask, if you can, to please bring a non-perishable food item to be donated to Fred’s Pantry, which is held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church every Wednesday from 4:00-6:00pm and Saturday from 9:00-11:00am.
