Marathon movie screening of Gettysburg this Saturday

The three-day Civil War battle at Gettysburg on July 1, 1863 is the focus of the four-hour movie of the same name. The Lincoln Depot Museum at 10 South Water Street will be screening the 1993 feature film on the Museum’s big screen on Saturday, July 1 at 2 p.m. According to John Testa of the Lincoln Depot Museum, this movie is a “Director’s Cut” which is about four hours and 15 minutes long. “Those who may have watched on television in the past probably did not see this version,” said Testa.

Museum officials suggest that guests bring a cushion as the seats at the Lincoln Depot are as hard as General Hancock’s saddle.  When inviting guests, museum officials said they can stay as long as they like, just like the Army of Northern Virginia did.

Patrick Falci played General A.P. Hill in the film and was a historical advisor to the filmmakers. He’ll be present at the screening on Saturday.

Period attire/uniforms are welcome and refreshments will be available. There will be a trivia contest in between each day of battle. The cost is $10 and reservations are strongly encouraged. Purchase tickets here. Admission is $10.00 for all who attend. Due to licensing and other costs, this event is not free to members.

Patrick Falci, an actor who played General A.P. Hill in the film and was a historical advisor to the filmmakers will be on hand to introduce the film and also answer questions about the movie, the battlefield park and the battle itself. The movie stars Martin Sheen, Tom Berenger, Jeff Daniels and Sam Elliot.
