Peekskill Pride’s Family Pride Day in Pugsley Park Saturday
June 23, 2023
Peekskill Pride’s Family PRIDE in the Park is this Saturday, June 24 from 1 pm to 6 pm, rain or shine. The third annual Family PRIDE in the Park event is at Pugsley Park in downtown Peekskill, across from Sun River Healthcare, at 1037 Main Street. This free and open to all event promises to be an afternoon filled with festive and colorful activities for all ages. Guests are encouraged to bring lunch or order takeout and have it delivered to the park from nearby downtown restaurants and enjoy a picnic in the park.
“The Peekskill Pride Board of Directors encourages the community to come out, socialize outdoors, breathe fresh air, support local businesses, and connect with families and friends. Our mission continues to further inclusion, diversity, and pride within the City of Peekskill and surrounding areas, ” said the Ben Lukens, president of Peekskill Pride.
This year, the headline act is “The Little Mermen,” known as the Ultimate Disney Tribute Band, a seven-member national touring band that will thrill all ages. You can also enjoy live music by Christina Picciano and All My Friends, drag queen story time, fabulous local drag performers, and DJ Toney da Tiger from House of Aviance. There will be plenty of games and craft activities for children, take pictures with and dress our visiting goats in rainbows, and an opportunity to create a mural in partnership with the Peekskill Branch of NAACP.
Additionally, vendors and sponsors will be there to provide you with health and wellness information, books, games, and many other surprises! You can also dress up your pet and have their photo taken to participate in the pet photo contest. For more information about the event, visit www.peekskillpride.org.
Board member and Peekskill Councilman Brian Fassett said, “As a country, celebrating PRIDE has become increasingly significant given our current state. I take pride in being a board member of Peekskill Pride and having previously held the position of founding President. The organization’s new leadership has impressed me with its efforts to expand outreach, and I am confident that our exceptional board, led by President Ben Lukens, will achieve great things. Our primary goal at Peekskill Pride is to ensure everyone in Peekskill knows that our community embraces diversity wholeheartedly, regardless of whether they reside, work, or visit here. It’s definitely something worth celebrating!”
