Police arrest three inside stolen vehicle with illegal loaded firearm

Highland Avenue

A 5 am Wednesday call to the police about loud noise coming from a car on Highland Avenue  led to the arrest of three young adults in a stolen car who were in possession of an illegal loaded firearm.

According to Peekskill Police Lt. Jack Galusha, when officers Mike Nolte and Delmar Pereira responded they found a white Volkswagen Jetta with loud music playing through its stereo and occupied by four people. Upon further investigation, Officer Nolte discovered that the Jetta was a reported stolen vehicle out of New York City.

A further search of the vehicle by Officers Nolte and Kevin Stewart then yielded a loaded .380 semiautomatic pistol. None of the four occupants possessed a pistol license. It was later learned from the NYPD that the legal owner of the vehicle was robbed at gunpoint of their vehicle the day prior, said Galusha in a press release.

Three of the four occupants of the vehicle were arrested and transported back to Peekskill Police Headquarters where they were charged with felony Criminal Possession of Stolen Property for the stolen vehicle and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd (loaded firearm), a violent felony.

Arrested were 21-year-old Ethan Arroyo, 19-year-old Sandro Soto and a 17-year-old male whose name is withheld due to juvenile status. Arroyo and Soto were arraigned in Peekskill City Court on Thursday and remanded to Westchester County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail. The 17-year-old male was arraigned by Westchester County Court and remanded to a juvenile detention facility.

The fourth occupant of the vehicle was a 14-year-old female juvenile who was learned to be a missing runaway from a group home that also had felony warrants outside of this jurisdiction. She was remanded to the custody of a juvenile detention facility.
