Brooms, trash bags, gloves—and above all, a strong spirit of community—will come together this Sunday, April 27, during the 4th annual Peekskill Dog Park cleanup. Each year, dozens of volunteers dedicate their time and energy to keeping this park in top condition—a space that brings together families and their pets on a daily basis.

The activities will begin at 12 noon, led by the City’s Department of Public Works, with support from the community group Friends of the Peekskill Dog Park, which will coordinate and guide participants through the scheduled tasks. The event is expected to last approximately four hours.
Planned activities include trash collection along the park perimeter, inner pathways, and play areas, as well as a deep cleaning of dog waste stations and the restocking of biodegradable waste bags. Volunteers of all ages—including children and seniors—will work together during a day that not only promotes environmental care but also strengthens the social fabric of the community.

In addition to cleanup efforts, the event will include repair and repainting of fences, benches, and waste dispensers, as well as the leveling of worn-out ground areas, affected by the constant movement of dogs. New informational signs with guidelines for responsible park use will also be installed to encourage respectful and safe interactions.
The initiative is part of Peekskill’s broader Earth Day observance, with hands-on activities that encourage environmental awareness. Similar efforts are being carried out through the week in other city parks and schools, collectively contributing to the beautification and sustainability of public green spaces.
As in previous years, once the event concludes, volunteers will be treated to complimentary snacks as a token of appreciation for their effort and dedication. For more information, those interested can email.
