There’s no better plan for Wednesday, April 23, than one that brings together a good book and tasty snacks. The Teen Book Club at Hendrick Hudson Free Library, located in Montrose—just four miles from downtown Peekskill—offers an engaging and enriching activity for teens, starting at 6 p.m.
This time, the group will explore The Green Glass Sea by Ellen Klages, a novel that transports readers to the heart of one of the most complex periods of the 20th century. The book was awarded the 2007 Scott O’Dell Award for Historical Fiction, one of the most prestigious honors in children’s and young adult literature in the United States. It also received the New Mexico Book Award for Juvenile Book, which recognizes works written in or connected to the state of New Mexico.

Set in 1943, during World War II, the story follows 11-year-old Dewey Kerrigan as she travels alone to Los Alamos, New Mexico, to reunite with her father, a mathematician working on the top-secret Manhattan Project.
Surrounded by scientists, secrecy, and new friendships, Dewey embarks on a personal journey amid the creation of the weapon that would change world history: the atomic bomb.
