The Peekskill Film Festival welcomes the warm weather with a major fundraising event at Gleason’s, this coming Friday, May 10 at 7:00pm.

The fundraiser will feature the sounds of the Indie Rock band Phineas and the Lonely Leaves and tons of laughs will come from comedian Anthony Zenhauser. Admission is $10 at the door. All proceeds from the door will go directly to the Peekskill Film Festival to help offset the costs of running the film festival.

“This year the Peekskill Film Festival committee is working with the City of Peekskill, the Peekskill Business Improvement District (BID), and The Field Library to expand the scope of the festival,” said film festival manager Chris Fox.  “We are coordinating with them the showing of an Academy-award nominated animated film, “Nimona,” as well as panel discussions.”

The Peekskill Film Festival, founded in 2015, screens an eclectic mix of first-rate features, shorts, documentaries, and animation–cultivating and encouraging diverse voices around the world. In addition to screening the best and brightest in indie film, the Peekskill Film Festival hosts workshops with Emmy-Award winning artists and filmmakers, parties, panel discussions, and an entire day dedicated to student film. The Peekskill Film Festival will take place this year on July 26 and 27th at the historic Paramount Hudson Valley Theater. The Paramount Hudson Valley Paramount Theater built in 1930 is an 1,100 seat theater built in 1930 and is a jewel located in the heart of Peekskill’s arts and restaurant district.

The Oz Land Festival will take place on South Street in downtown Peekskill. The street will be closed off for the event, as has been done in past years, and will include an outdoor stage with family entertainment, the “Artsmobile”, from ArtsWestchester, and professional actors dressing up and interacting with festival-goers as characters from “The Wizard of Oz!” Additionally, artisan vendors will be there selling wares, and festival-goers are encouraged to dress up as their favorite Oz characters themselves.

This Saturday, May 11 at 7 pm at “The Artist Spot”, located at 925 South Street there will be an Oz Land Fundraiser in order to raise funds needed to pay for the festival. The Oz Land Festival Fundraiser will have lots of fun and of course dancing! “Miss New York” contestant and Peekskill singing sensation, Amy Reyes will be there singing vocals. Of course there will be dancing and a DJ will keep the energy sky high as everyone is welcome to participate in line dancing, Zumba, and “ageless dancing”, a movement class that Scarlett Antonia teaches in which people that want to dance but do not want to feel inhibited due to their age. Scarlett Antonia’s youth performance troupe, “The Wiz Kidz” will be performing and even a special “Wizard” may appear. The cost to attend the fundraiser is $20. Refreshments will be served.

In addition, Scarlett Antonia will be holding an open call audition on May 14th and 16th at 7 pm at The Artist Spot for actors needed for the Oz Land Festival. Scarlett says “Bring a monologue, have a song ready, and be ready to move.” All characters are needed for the festival  including the Cowardly Lion, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, Dorothy, Glinda, the Wicked Witch of the West, The Wizard, Flying Monkeys, all of the Munchkins, Aunt Em, and Uncle Henry. All ages, genders, and ethnicities are welcome to audition. In addition, the Oz Land Festival organizers are looking for vendors for the Oz Land Festival in August.
