Pray Tell, the character played by Billy Porter in the critically acclaimed, three Primetime Emmy Award and Golden Globe winning TV Series POSE, starts every single Ballroom with the saying “The category is…” and then names a category. This Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 7:00pm “The category is….Quirkshop Fashion”.
On Saturday, July 27th, Quirkshop will celebrate its 9-year anniversary. To mark this milestone, an outdoor fashion show and block party will be held on Division Street’s “restaurant row”, showcasing the innovative work of independent designers who specialize in upcycling.
This event promises to be a fusion of fashion, community, and sustainability, bringing together locals and visitors alike for an unforgettable evening. The fashion show will feature models who are none other than Quirkshop’s loyal customers, proudly strutting down the runway in garments and accessories they have curated from the boutique over the past nine years.
In addition to the runway spectacle, the block party-style celebration will feature live music by the Jack Grace Band, creating a vibrant atmosphere for guests to enjoy. Attendees will have the opportunity to dine at any of the seven restaurants along the block, savoring the culinary delights of Peekskill’s vibrant dining scene: G&H Caribbean, Annabella’s Pizza & Pasta, Ruben’s Mexican Café, Taco District, Thaimeless Thai, and Whiskey River.
“We are incredibly excited to celebrate nine years of Quirkshop with our amazing community,” said Jeorjia Shea, founder of Quirkshop. “This event is not only a celebration of our journey but also a testament to our commitment to sustainable fashion and supporting independent designers.”
Attendees can expect an array of eye-catching designs crafted from upcycled materials, each telling a unique story of creativity and environmental consciousness. From avant-garde statement pieces to everyday staples with a twist, the fashion show will highlight the diverse talent within Quirkshop’s curated collection.
In 2013, Jeorjia Shea opened Quirkshop at 23 South Division Street. Jeorjia, working with Elizabeth Jay of Jay Girl Designs, makes indie designer clothing by upcycling and hand making unique one-of-a-kind individual pieces that are then sold here in downtown Peekskill. Quirkshop is considered a hub for local lovers of art, jewelry, organic skin care and luxury textiles made by local artisans and craftspeople. Shoppers can also find vintage items, copper and leather pendants, hand blown glassware, dishes, and secret silver treasures.
