The 2025 season has come to an end for Hen Hud’s varsity girls soccer team. On Oct. 25, after defeating Croton in an outbracket matchup to advance to the first round of sectionals, No. 17 Hen Hud fell 8-2 on the road to Class AA powerhouse and top seed Pleasantville.
Despite the scoreline – and a 6-0 deficit at halftime – the Sailors never gave up. With 12 minutes remaining and the score at 8-0, Hen Hud earned a penalty. Senior Fotini Schattman calmly converted from the spot, slotting the ball into the bottom-right corner to put the Sailors on the board.
But the true highlight came in the final seconds. With just 30 seconds left, senior Mallory Parks scored from distance – to her own surprise – sparking cheers and hugs from her teammates. According to head coach William Pagel, Parks had missed most of the season due to injury and saw limited playing time.
“I subbed her in the final minute so she could end her career on the field,” said Pagel. “It was quite surprising and unexpected when she happened to get a chance to shoot and even more surprising when it went in. It was a great moment for her and a great moment for the team.”
The Sailors close out the 2025 season with an overall record of 5-12-1. Leading the offense was breakout freshman Kinsley Steinhiser with 17 goals, followed by eighth grader Julianna Povella with seven and Yorgia Schattman with three. Steinhiser also led the team in assists with eight, while Skyler Selkin and Bridget Couch each recorded six. In goal, Charlotte Gaspar posted two clean sheets.
Hen Hud will graduate six seniors: Fotini Schattman, Yorgia Schattman, Shayla Cachay, Haley Morris, Mallory Parks, and Jonna Rivera.
Despite those departures, the Sailors will return in 2026 with a promising young core – including Steinhiser, Povella, Couch, Selkin, and Gaspar – all eager to build on this season’s progress and carry the momentum into 2026.

He’s averaging 8.8 yards per carry, 145.9 yards per game, and 2.4 touchdowns per contest. His standout performance came on Homecoming Night (Sept. 19) in a 40-28 victory over Rye Neck, where he found the end zone six times.
With the win, the Sailors finished the regular season at 4-4, earning the No. 7 seed in the Class B tournament. They’ll face No. 2 Ardsley (5-2) on Saturday, Nov. 1, at 3 p.m. at Ardsley High School. The Panthers are the defending Class B champions, having defeated Pleasantville in last year’s title game.
Ardsley enters the matchup on a four-game unbeaten streak, their last loss coming to Westlake on Sept. 26 (41-13). The Sailors will need to contain standout running back Ahmady Dolcine, a 2024 All-Section honoree. In seven games this season, Dolcine has rushed 113 times for 1,169 yards and 13 touchdowns and has twice been nominated for Lohud’s Player of the Week.
Quarterback Lucas Kaplan (2024 All-Conference) has also been a steady presence, completing 43 of 85 passes for 819 yards and eight touchdowns across six games.
The winner of Saturday’s quarterfinal will advance to face the winner of No. 3 Sleepy Hollow vs. No. 6 Pleasantville in the semifinals, scheduled for Nov. 7-8.
