The “Leesther Brown For Common Council” campaign is pleased to announce that their special guest speaker at their kickoff fundraiser on June 24th will be Jeffrey Deskovic, Esq., MA.  Mr. Deskovic will speak about prosecutorial misconduct and the national need for criminal justice reform based upon his firsthand experience as well as formal education, as well as what can be done on the local level.

In 1991, despite the lack of physical evidence, Mr. Deskovic was wrongfully convicted of the rape and murder of his classmate, Angela Correa, in Peekskill.  At the time of his conviction, Mr. Deskovic was only 17 years old.  In 2006, based upon DNA evidence, Jeffrey Deskovic was exonerated of these crimes.  By then, Mr. Deskovic had spent half of his life in prison for a crime he never committed.

In the past several years, Mr. Deskovic has earned a law degree from Pace University and also established The Jeffrey Deskovic Foundation for Justice, which has helped free 11 wrongfully convicted people, and helped pass eight laws.  At this event Mr. Deskovic will speak strictly as an individual advocate and not as a member of his organization. After hearing his story, we’re sure you will agree that criminal justice reform is not just a Democratic or Republican issue, but rather a concern which needs to be addressed in a national bipartisan manner.

Peekskill Republican Common Council candidate Leesther Brown completely agrees with that assessment.  In fact, Ms. Brown has been a steadfast supporter of Mr. Deskovic shortly after he was released from prison with nothing into a world that he was totally unfamiliar with, long before he was compensated and before he earned his advanced degrees.

Ms. Brown’s kickoff fundraiser will be held at the Cortlandt Colonial Restaurant between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. on June 24, 2021. Tickets for this event are $35 per person which may be paid at the door.  Checks should be made payable to “Friends of Lee C. Brown.”  If you prefer, you may pay in advance utilizing Paypal at paypal.me/FriendsofLeeCBrown or by Zelle with the email link of [email protected].
