Have you ever wanted to know about something from Peekskill’s past but didn’t know how or where to find the information? Maybe you are conducting a genealogical search and looking for an obituary from the 1800s or seeking to find a school yearbook picture of your great great grandparents.
Maybe you are interested in finding information about a huge cannon in Hillside Cemetery, as was local history buff Tim Warn (Chair of Hudson Valley Gateway Chamber of Commerce), who will present his findings about the cannon’s history at the Peekskill Museum on April 5 at 2 p.m.
Or just maybe you are interested in learning about the history of two brothers from Peekskill who perished during World War II as Peekskill Herald did in December 2024 when we worked with local history librarian Sarah Scott on the in-depth Story of the Neidhardt Brothers. If any of these or other interesting tidbits about Peekskill pique your interest, then this Field Library program is just for you.
On Wednesday, March 19, 2025, from 6 – 7 p.m. at The Field Library, Peekskill Local History Librarian Sarah Scott will present Get to Know the Colin T. Naylor, Jr. Archives, Peekskill’s dedicated local history repository.
In the one-hour program, Sarah will take a deep dive into our local history collections, including original maps, newspapers, and school yearbooks dating back over 100 years, to 1919. She also will show patrons the new digital newspaper archives. Sarah then will take attendees on a tour of the archives. I have been in the archives and was overwhelmed by all the history that surrounded me. I couldn’t help but have my history buff sensors start going on overdrive.

Those who are interested in attending this program must register in advance using this link. Registration is a simple four questions including your name, email, how you heard about the event, and a question on if you would like to be updated on local history information.
Don’t forget to share this article and let The Field Library and Sarah Scott know you read about it in the Peekskill Herald.
