The Peekskill Herald does not have a paywall, meaning anyone can access all the stories that are reported. But in order to keep the news flowing, we need your support.
Through the end of the year, every dollar donated to the Herald is matched by a national funder through the NewsMatch campaign, which supports local nonprofit news organizations.
To celebrate Giving Tuesday, the Herald has asked five residents to speak to the value of having a source of local, independent news in Peekskill.
Asia Murrell is a fourth-generation Peekskillian. She is a familiar face to anyone who has visited New York Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital’s medical surgery rooms. A 2013 graduate of Peekskill High School, she is a co-owner of the Red Door Creative Space.
Sol Miranda has been in the Peekskill community for some 20+ years, where she has raised her two children and co-founded Embark, a performing and literary arts center initiative. A professional actor and college professor, Miranda currently has a role in the Off-Broadway play La Paloma Prisoner.
Stephen Bond grew up in Mohegan Lake and graduated from Walter Panas High School in 2009. He and his two partners opened Valley Greens, Peekskill’s first cannabis dispensary, this year. He says he feels the artistic element of Peekskill when he walks down the streets and wants to be a part of it.
Maya Jordan and her husband moved to Peekskill in 2023 after a decade of dreaming of making Peekskill their home. She’s the founder of Compass Star Consulting, a holistic boutique consulting firm dedicated to creating healthier workplaces. She is also a multi-hyphenate creative in stage, film, music and writing. As a proud Peekskill resident, she’s looking forward to growing her continued involvement in the community.
