Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls, children of all ages, bring your lawn chairs, bring your love of music, and bring the entire family for a Peekskill musical event like no other. On Saturday, August 10, 2024 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm, straight from the 2024 Paris Olympics to the City of Peekskill is one of America’s greatest Olympians, 1968 Gold medalist, Olympic record holder for the longest jump ever in the Olympics, and now percussionist, Bob Beamon will be performing with STIX Bones and The B.O.N.E. (Brothers Of Noble Excellence) Squad right here in the center of Peekskill at Esther Place.
In 1968 Long jumper Bob Beamon made history with a record-setting leap of 29 feet 2 and a 1/2 inches, the longest Olympic record to date. Beamon has returned to his first love of music and the BeanRunner Cafe and Cross Cultural Connections invite everyone to experience this groundbreaking performance that infuses the soul of jazz and the heartbeat of hip/hop as part of Esther Street Jazz Series.
A recent Washington Post article, “He’s 77, an Olympic legend and just made a hip-hop jazz album” details Bob’s remarkable history and how he became the fifth member of the band. The article is also available on Apple News via this link.
Beamon is not the only legend set to perform. B.O.N.E. Squad members have a history of opening for legends like Charlie Wilson, Chaka Khan, Baby Face, and Cedric the Entertainer, and performing with greats such as Stevie Wonder, Ashford and Simpson, and Common.
Stix Bones and The Bone Squad released their newest CD, “Olimpik Soul!” earlier this year. You can listen to it on YouTube via this link. With their unique blend of soul, funk, and hip-hop, Stix Bones & The BONE Squad will keep you dancing all night long.
Stix Bones was the drummer for internationally known group Soulfege, lead by former Oprah Winfrey XM Sirius host Derrick N. Ashong. Stix has had the privilege to record two award winning albums with Soulfege and perform on the Derrick Ashong Experience. The album “Afropolitan” made its mark on the Jazz Week World Charts. He has produced hit songs for guitarist Matt Marshak including “Gas Lamp Groove” and “Harlem River Drive.”
Reservations for “Esther Street Jazz” can be made by calling the BeanRunner Cafe at 914-737-1701. A suggested donation of $20 per person goes directly to the musicians. In case of rain, the shows will be held inside the BeanRunner Cafe.
